As a frequent visitor to Colonial Williamsburg, feeling like a time traveler in another century should feel normal. However, rather than a glimpse of the 18th century, CW allowed me to spend an evening this past weekend with one of the 19th century's famous personalities -- Edgar Allan Poe.

David Keltz portrayed this brilliant writer and held the audience spellbound. The evening began with a dinner that was very appropriate for the season, complete with pumpkin bisque, salad with blood orange vinaigrette, and chocolate mousse in a carved chocolate casket.

Keltz, who bears a striking resemblance to Poe, took command of the stage at once. Despite the fact that there were more than 150 people in the room, he managed to make me feel as if we were personally engaged in an intimate conversation.

He began by retelling two of Poe's short stories, and he ended with a spine-chilling rendition of "The Raven." Nevermore will I think of Poe without envisioning Keltz's portrayal of the emotional piece.

Thank you Colonial Williamsburg, especially the Williamsburg Lodge, for bringing this unique opportunity to our area.

I sincerely hope that this will become an annnual event. If so, I would like to put in my reservation for next year. Until then, I shall be re-reading the works of Edgar Allan Poe.
